Mile Me Deaf are such an active band that saying “Mile Me Deaf are back!” feels stupid. Anyway, they’re back with a new album! And here’s the first song off it! Download it for free!
Monsterheart - Bunnies, from W, out this Friday on Seayou
Life must be fun as a rabbit in the quirky Monsterheart world.
Because April can be such an awkward and underrated month, here’s a grinding, awkward and underrated TV character for you.>> READ MORE >>
Jungle - Busy Earnin’
One crappy cellphone picture of MASKINVÅD, March 28th 2014, Loppen, Copenhagen
Between the bass players Neu! tattoo, the singer’s Feinrippleiberl and the saxophone, I thought they’d be a band whose cool is too calculated for me. The Neu! tattoo is a bit indicative of what they sound like (or want to sound like), however there’s some added post-punk dramatics. In Denmark everybody compares them to Kliché, so if you know your Århus 70s punk, you know what they’re talking about.

One crappy cellphone picture of MARTA at Club Nolabel, B72 Vienna, 25 March 2014
What more is there to say about Marta after Karl Fluch’s (!!) paean of praise? He covered it all - Paul’s rough, cragged voice, the impulsive drums of Günther, the imperfection in the songs that makes them this authentic and compelling. Live they are even more mind-blowing than on record, and at this edition of the Club Nolabel they found a great addition in the bassist Stephan. Also, their jam (not as in jam-session, but their actual homemade strawberry jam that comes with a download code) is utterly delicious.
A couple of friends and fine folks made this little video documentary about our band. It was shot during the hottest summer weekend of 2013, featuring a special guest appearance by band mascot Brösel. We sweat a lot, eat Indian food, talk about band stuff and listen to Lionel Richie.
One of us really likes skijumping and I was hoping she would pick this up and maybe explain what the hell is so interesting about this sport. She’s off at the moment, living her life or something, so it’s up to me to tell you that now, right after the 7 p.m. news, Ja, Panik will comment the skijumping world cup in Harrachov for the FM4 Homebase. Personally, I’m just listening to have a quirky story about what I did last night to tell to my colleagues tomorrow.
If you’re not online right now, that’s cool, it’ll be available to you for a whole week.
Bilderbuch - Moon Boots
Moon Boots was actually the first of the songs from the Feinste Seide EP that the band played live, I think. At least I remember hearing this for the first time at a show pre-Plansch and thinking, this is bilderbuch-crazy as usual and greater than ever. And then the track didn’t even make it onto the digital version of the EP at first! Luckily it is available now.
Gin Ga - AA
Fourth wall breaks FTW! And just look how the horizon always aligns with where Alex Konrad’s shirt ends!
MEL - Don’t Look Back
Well, the lyrics of this song are so generic and plain (“honey don’t look back, honey we won’t forget” / “we go out on the beach and feel the love”) that at least the video with dancing on the beach fits the song quite well.
Der Nino aus Wien - Diese Person ist cool (from Träume, out May 16, via Problembär Records)
The first single from Nino’s upcoming two albums. I like it but I’m never going to watch the video again because it reminds me of the 2012 Doctor Who Christmas special which was not only bad, but also super scary
Gin Ga - AA
There’s small set of choreography in the new Gin Ga video while Alex Konrad is being beaten up by his bandmates. I also hope that cool cars are to replace boring and clichéd ‘the woods’ videos. Anyhow, the shabby Gin Ga tourbus is being driven in a classical white cube and is not totally innocent. So, spoilers: watch until the end or you might miss a murder.
Bulbul - Genderman Can
My theory is that this song has something to do with a feminist attitude, but this is based solely on the song title because I don’t understand these lyrics (acoustically). And I don’t enjoy Bulbul entirely (emotionally), but I do enjoy great puns, and the link to the Bulbul Facebook page is a great one indeed: https://www.facebook.com/bulbulshit
Thieves Like Us - Sutphin Boulevard (Blood Orange Cover)
As a first appetizer for the new Thieves Like Us album due in autumn/winter on Seayou, the band decided to cover a Blood Orange track, which is a project of half god Dev Hynes.
When I say half god, that is no exaggeration. Not only is he besties with Beyoncé’s little sister Solange, but he was also the guy behind both Lightspeed Champion and Test Icicles.
