Ginga - One Of Us (They Shoot Music Primavera Sound Sessions)
Mother says I was a dancer before I could walk.
- ABBA, Thank You For The Music
One Of Us is not the only thing on the The Nights EP that makes a (conscious?) reference to ABBA. This EP, by the way, took forever to see the light of day. When I saw Ginga for the first time (and one night before I left for my exchange year), they had just re-recorded and re-released their debut album after having been the first Popfest’s sensational discovery. When they came to my exchange country eight months later, they not only filled the town’s main square with people, but they also played Dancer - which sounded slightly different then than it does now on the EP - but no details of an upcoming album were known yet.
Fast forward to a year later: Even at the official EP release concert in Vienna this spring, the four tracks weren’t available yet. However, finally (and without a big noise, at least I wasn’t aware of it until recently), since June it is out, and it sounds rougher than the debut album, while at the same time still being every bit as catchy and energetic.
