Seayou Records have collaborated with Brutal Beauty, a skateboarding/art/fashion collective based in Vienna. Together they are releasing:
The digital version of the EP can be downloaded from April 26, the vinyl is available on May 10. You can listen to it here (Die Eternias) and here (Dust Covered Carpet) if you’re curious.
Dust Covered Carpet - Mouthflower, from the Dust Covered Carpet / Die Eternias Split 7”
This new Dust Covered Carpet song is as depressed as usual, lyrics-wise, but sounds quite different, less folky than previous tracks, maybe due to line-up changes. I think I like it!
Beach Girls and the Monster - I Go Surfing, from I Go Surfing, out on 27 February on Kim Pop
This band from Graz makes - surprise! - surf music. My friend Simon rightfully mentioned that at times the four tracks on their 7” could be straight from a Tarantino movie soundtrack. Extra points for the adorable band photo.

Once again, we bring to you the most interesting new and free tracks from around the world, curated by international music bloggers and publications with an eye on their local scenes, this month with Austria’s folk collective DUST COVERED CARPET.

AUSTRIA: Walzerkönig
Dust Covered Carpet – Fragile Soul / Heavy Heart (MP3)
“A rooftop above concrete or a cliff above the shore or an accident on the street.” The first lines of Fragile Soul / Heavy Heart set the tone for the rest of this strangely calm, reduced and peaceful song that is, after all, about suicide. It is no surprise, then, that Dust Covered Carpet are based in a city with a well-known affinity for all things morbid: Vienna.

Four GIFs and a sentence per music video
Shot in Hungary during the album recording sessions, this b/w video is a visual analogy to the reduced and calm sound of the song, featuring the band members and nature shots.
Dust Covered Carpet - Achingly Honest
The third single off Witness Me Pass Out is once again a free download, and it’s a pretty great song and I continue to fall more and more in love with this band so what I’m saying is you should probably watch this and download the single for free and then consider going to one of their shows and/or buying their record.

A rooftop above concrete or a cliff above the shore or an accident on the street when I’m dizzy
Suicide is love… this one is a grower. It seemed boring to me at first, and slightly pathetic too, but now I can’t stop listening. It’s a free download over at beatismurder.com. For the video, Dust Covered Carpet mix melancholic nature shots with Bernd and Hilla Becher-style industrial aesthetics.
This seems to be a thing still. Awful ringtones are the second most annoying thing on public transport right after loud music played on crappy earphones. Luckily Dust Covered Carpet and Viech are making the world a tiny bit of a better place:

Dust Covered Carpet, The Writer’s Pen
Dust Covered Carpet = Arcade Fire with three Regines and young angsty Conor Oberst on the microphone (that is a compliment in case you were wondering). They are quite amazing live, but sadly the studio versions don’t do them justice entirely.
Bonus: One crappy cellphone picture of Dust Covered Carpet from their Nov 2nd Flex gig, taken by fuckingbruges:
