FM4 Hip Hop Open 2014 (Trailer)

Chances are you’ve heard about the controversy around the headliners of the lineup of this event. It names the local party rap newcomer, teenage hype sensation and son of an influential father Left Boy before the internationally renowned hip hop veteran Nas who will be performing his seminal album Illmatic.

But have you also heard about the rest of the lineup? No? Luckily here’s a trailer to inform you.

The FM4 Hip Hop Open 2014 is taking place on 11 July at Arena Wien and Nas, Blumentopf, Left Boy, Crack Ignaz, the Duzz Down San crew and more will be performing. Tickets are 45 EUR.

Konea Ra feat. DJ Phekt - Boy

Reverse motion is the second most fun thing to do with a video right after choreographing it!

Karma Art - My Head (feat. Tbs Kttl) (that’s Tobias from Clains. Hey Tobias, haven’t you heard that Leaving Out Vowels Is So 2000?)

The 19 year old Karma Art is the newest act in the artist roster of Duzz Down San. My Head is a first insight into what his debut album, which will also feature a collaboration with Walzerkönig favourite The Unused Word if we understood correctly, will sound like.

Atomique, P.tah, Con - Karma, from Chrome, out sometime in winter on Duzz Down San

If I am not entirely mistaken, that is Mr. Lasko from the band Lasko and formerly a member of Mondscheiner in the video drinking and smoking heavily and doing all kinds of other drugs. Who knew that Mondscheiner would bring forth so many actors?

Atomique feat. P.tah & Con @ Popfest 2013: Saturday, 27 July, 9.30 PM, Seebühne

P.tah, Mirac, Testa - 7 Uhr 7

Es is wieder mal 7 Uhr 7, habs wieder mal übertrieben

Ah, what a wonderful combination. Vienna’s rooftops go well with the post-frenzy vibe of the song. Other locations include the recently very popular Wotruba church (A Thousand Fuegos, Deadnote.danse) and the wonderful Wienerberg area, where I worked on the 33rd floor and spent the best summer nights of my late teens.

The Unused Word  Heaven (Testa Remix) (MP3)
Much like the recent 4AD signing SOHN, Anna aka The Unused Word is not only working and living in Vienna, but also has her finger on the pulse with her soulful mixture of hip hop and new school electronica. Heaven is taken from her debut EP ∞ (Infinity). The version here is a remix by her labelmate DJ Testa.

The Unused Word - Heaven (Testa Rmx)

I am completely and utterly in love with The Unused Word. Please do yourself a favour and listen to the original as well if you prefer your indie R&B with a little more warmth.

The Unused Word - Heaven, from ∞ EP

Heavily R&B/soul/hip hop influenced electronic music or vice versa is the hot shit right now. Every self-respecting music snob now freely confesses their love for Beyoncé and goes to Hudson Mohawke shows. Somewhere inbetween, acts like Gerard and S O H N, and internationally, Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, AlunaGeorge, Jessie Ware, Shlohmo or Rhye combine genres tremendously successfully. Please excuse the heavy name dropping, but I am so excited about this trend.

I am equally excited about The Unused Word, the “first lady of Duzz Down San”.

Klaim - Trapped In Spain

It’s such a ubiquitous trick to evoke summer feelings and memories of beach holidays to gain attention with a song or music video but some do it better than others and this is one of the more interesting variations of that theme.
