Plaided - Hold on Tight
I’m not a big fan of water and water sports so I was always of the opinion that the only reason surfing seems so cool is because of all the awesome surf music that is around. Plaided fit right into that tradition with that song.
Bonus: Baywatch style life guard.

Plaided – Freaks And Geeks (MP3)
“Would you run run run run run run run to my place and watch Freaks and Geeks all night long?” We totally would! Plaided is an acronym that was inspired by a Girls Rock Camp participant’s band and thus matches the feminist background of Veronika Eberhart and Julia Mitterbauer. The duo will go on a US tour with Grass Widow in September and also record a 7” record there. Freaks And Geeks is taken from their debut album Playdate, recorded by Wolfgang Möstl (of previous MAP act Mile Me Deaf).

From Playdate, out June 15 via Fettkakao. And FYI, on that album, there is a song called Freaks and Geeks, in which Plaided sing about, yes, watching Freaks and Geeks and it’s almost like that Moldy Peaches song that got famous when it was in Juno, only much better because it is about Freaks and Geeks and not just cartoons and bikes.
Very late in the day, but still on the 15th of the month, we bring to you the most interesting new and free tracks from around the world, curated by international music bloggers and publications with an eye on their local scenes, this month with Austria’s MILE ME DEAF.

Mile Me Deaf – Wild At Heart
Mile Me Deaf is one of the other bands Killed By 9V Batteries’ Wolfgang Möstl plays in. And although side-projects - such an unfair name for a 500+ songs oeuvre - are usually a space for weird shit your band mates didn’t agree to, their first album Eat Skull, and especially the first single Wild At Heart, is surprisingly free of noise and distortion. Instead, it creates the last-day-of-summer-holidays feeling you know from Girls and Beach House.
June 1: AT, Wien, Gartenbau Kino (Record Release Show)
August 4: AT, Salzburg, Rockhouse (STUCK! Festival)

A Thousand Fuegos – No Up No Down
“Don’t you know that everything we build up once will fall apart someday?” Time and religious metaphors are recurring themes on The Treachery Of Things, from which No Up No Down is taken. The album circles around the notion that we can never grasp the true identity of the things around us; they remain passive while we assign attributes to them. A Thousand Fuegos started out as a lo-fi project and these days focuses on beats, loops and spacey synths that create a mystical atmosphere.

A Thousand Fuegos: The Path
Remember that Interpol video for The Heinrich Maneuver that was just this one scene slowed down to last three and a half minutes? The one that probably had some deep meaning but turned out to be just horribly boring? A Thousand Fuegos learned from Interpols mistake and mixed this incredibly-slow-business up with some egg cracking and animals.
