Garish - Auf den Dächern
"Wer Bogart falsch zitiert, hat das verdient" is a sentence that connects this first appetizer for the upcoming (and presumably excellent) Garish album with its accompanying music video.
After all, it makes a huge difference whether someone looks into your eyes or you look into theirs. It’s a question of power and subject/object relations (check out Sartre if you have doubts) and that’s what makes people on the screen looking directly at you so eery.
Not sure if that is really the meaning of the lyrics fragment or the video, but good art usually leaves space for interpretations, and this is some very fine art.
Viereinhalb Minuten Swing And Roll (Dreieinhalb Minuten Rock’n’Roll / Fred Schreiber Cover)
Fred Schreiber is not only a musician (Fred Schreiber, Die Falschen Freunde) but also happens to be one of the makers of the Sendung ohne Namen. A whole lot of representatives of the local music scene gathered some time ago to record a version of one of Schreiber’s songs for the ORF show, including Gustav, The Beth Edges, Skero, Mauracher, pauT, Fuzzman, Der Nino aus Wien, Discoparty Brothers, Das trojanische Pferd, Kreisky, Heinz aus Wien, Attwenger, Christoph & Lollo, Kidcat Lo-Fi, Luise Pop, Garish, Florian Horwath, A Life, A Song, A Cigarette, Curbs, I-Wolf and Fred Schreiber himself.
Also ich bin jetzt kein musikalischer Rebell.
Three crappy Instagram pictures of GARISH and boats at Leinen los!, Neusiedler See / Rust, 30 September 2012
So finally Garish, who I keep saying sound like how the Neusiedler See feels, played on the Neusiedler See, and it was incredibly nice passing the Schilfgürtel and the house boats and regular boats with Garish playing at the same time, although of course it would have been even nicer had they played on the upper deck instead of the drastically less atmospheric lower deck.
There was, by the way, another new song called Über den Dächern und ja, wer Bogart falsch zitiert, dem schau ich auch bös in die Augen.
One crappy cellphone picture per band, Garish, Imperial Theater, Reeperbahnfestival, Sept. 20th
Well, this was nice. After having waited forever to get into the Admiral Fallow show at the same location earlier this evening, we made sure to arrive early. That proved to be unnecessary and after waiting inside for a while, we got to see a wonderfully charming Garish play all my favourites off of Wenn Dir Das Meine Liebe Nicht Beweist, some older songs and a couple of new ones, including the super sexy Ganz Paris.
Auf Pomali - Fia Gegn
Blumentopf’s Liebe und Hass only less funny, more relaxed and definitely more Burgenländisch.
Garish: Unglück trägt denselben Namen (subtext.at Acoustic Session)
Whisky experts and one of the few good things the Burgenland is known for (apart from red wine and Ja, Panik) Garish perform an acoustic session in the forest at Noppen Air. The amount of Austrian bands shooting videos in the woods has become ridiculous.
One crappy cellphone picture of Garish (w/ Il Tempo Gigante), February 4, Spot On Denmark / WUK, Vienna
Because I tend to forget what an amazing band Garish are when I don’t see them play live for a while, and then everytime I do see them I instantly fall in love again with them and their ingenious use of the accordion and Marschkapellendrumrolls.
