One crappy Instagram picture of GERARD at Palaverama Festival, Gmünd, 1 August 2014 (plus a bonus romantic incident involving a GERARD BAG at U3 Volkstheater, Vienna, 4 August 2014)
I didn’t bring my Gerard bag with me to Palaverama. It was a lovely evening anyway, but the loveliest things happen when I am carrying it. Case in point:
Yesterday, as I was waiting for the U3 at Volkstheater, a guy tapped me on the shoulder and showed me his smartphone with the Blausicht album playing on his Spotify. Then he gesticulated towards my Gerard bag, said “Hi, I couldn’t help but notice…”, and afterwards he asked for my number.
Did I ever write about how it was Gerard and Nvie Motho who first introduced me to the term “bumpfist” and how I initially thought it was called “bampfi”? When I told this guy I wasn’t entirely available at the moment, as his U3 going in the opposite direction came into the station, he said “too bad” - I said “great taste in music though” - and then we fistbumped.

Tickets (12-22 EUR) hier.

Gerard - Zünd den Regen an  I B L A U S I C H T I (official live Video)

Directed by KIDIZIN SANE II Produced by Nvie Motho

Gerard - making people better persons since 2013.

Because I did not take a photo at the sold out Vienna show of Gerard this month (too busy enjoying the gig), I took one at the sold out Vienna show of OK Kid instead when Gerard appeared on stage for “Atme die Stadt”.
It was a so-called Abriss both times, with a lot of hands and smartphones in the air and a lot of “Aus” and “Ein”s from the audience. Good God, these people know how to have a good time! Even better, they also know how to make the best out of less great situations.
is just one of many great lines for people who are jumping headlong into a bad case of winter blues that strangely also includes riding the tram with school kids, on the way home from a night out on a regular weekday.

Gerard feat. OK KID - Atme Die Stadt (official Video)

Gerard is on tour and Vienna is sold out but thanks to a nervous friend, I bought my ticket weeks ago, and while the Casper gig (including a nightly stop at the Würstlstand with the Casper crew *starstruck*) was a great start to my hip hop heavy November, I am confident that the Gerard (B72) and OK Kid (Fluc) shows later this month will absolutely be highlights as well.

Gerard - Alles Jetzt, from Blausicht, out on 20 September on Heart Working Class

Enough with all the teasing and announcing, I can’t take it anymore! It will be such a relief when this album is finally out next Friday after months (no, years!) of fueling the hype machine and letting the demand and expectations for it grow.

Alles Jetzt is the perfect track to use as a final forerunner of what is to be expected. Gerard’s motivation and motives, as well as his current position become, if they weren’t already, crystal clear and more than relatable. It gives me second hand giddiness and tingly fingers.

Do you know where I first met Gerard and Nvie Motho? At last year’s Popfest. I remember how obvious it was to everyone then that Gerard would be performing this year. And that’s exactly what happened.
I didn’t understand much of what he said - the acoustics were less than great in the back of the Prechtlsaal - but as you can see in the photo above that didn’t really bother anyone.

Gerard - Verschwommen, FM4 Soundpark Studio2 Session Popfest Spezial

Gerard - Manchmal
6 GIFs and a sentence per music video

Manchmal is the contemporary redefinition of a romantic song for the age of “the end of courtship”.

S O H N - The Wheel (Nvie Motho Remix)

Both S O H N and Nvie Motho happen to live in Vienna, but until recently they had nothing to do with each other: S O H N used to be Trouble Over Tokyo and was rooted in the Austrian indie community, while Nvie Motho is best known for producing Gerard’s Lissabon, a cutting edge hip hop track. These are people from very different scenes who yet somehow belong to the same fashionable movement of combining electronic with r&b elements.

[This is what FM4 should be playing on heavy rotation. Internationally (or should I say internetionally? </badpun>), S O H N and Gerard are the ”homegrown” off-mainstream acts that get the most attention at the moment, yet they are being ignored (zero plays of either) by the one institution that should care about them: Austria’s “alternative and avantgarde” radio station. Oblivion to new developments is not going to help against the fading relevance of radio. Just saying.]

[ETA: I am sorry for the perceived FM4 bashing. At least in the case of S O H N, it is not the radio station’s fault but rather due to circumstances or a viral marketing strategy or whatever.]

Gerard - Manchmal

Just when I was finally not listening to Lissabon on a daily basis anymore, Austria’s future hip hop superstar Gerard released his next single off the upcoming Blausicht album. Manchmal is a wonderfully relaxed and honest and sweet track about the day after a one night stand after a party, with a video starring, among others, the singer of Likewise.

Currently a free download on the Gerard Facebook page.
