Only love can break your heart (Neil Young) - Killed by 9V Batteries

Ever since reading Navid Kermanis “Das Buch der von Neil Young getöteten” that wonderfully connects sufism, Neil Young and fatherhood, I have a new-found appreciation for both Neil Young and Killed by 9V Batteries’ Neil Young covers. I used to find them too lo-fi, too amateurish but now I can see the charm and beauty in that

Killed by 9V Batteries - Deathmatch Media

“Deathmatch” is a phrase I only knew from MTVs animated plaster show Celebrity Deathmatch but originally it was used to describe game modi in computer games that basically mean “kill ‘em all” (I think. I only skimmed the wikipedia article.). In the context of this song, deathmatch of course relates to the deaths of real life people in the real world instead of avatars and I’m sorry this post took such an ugly turn but we live in a cruel, cruel world, so hold on to each other and be kind to the people around you.

Killed By 9V Batteries are hosting a GoTV hosted by show tonight (18 October) at 9 PM on GoTV (obviously), and their playlist consists of The Flaming Lips, Talking Heads, Liars, Blur, Einstürzende Neubauten, Die Goldenen Zitronen, Girls, Bob Dylan, R.E.M., and for reasons we are very curious to hear, Money Boy, Marc Terenzi and Shania Twain.

One crappy cellphone picture per band, Waves Vienna edition: Killed By 9V Batteries, September 29th, Flex, Vienna
Waves Vienna is only one and a half days old, yet already it is the most amazing Welcome-back-to-Vienna gift a Walzerkoenigin could ever wish for. We haven’t seen a lot of bands yet; this is due to the fact that during the day, we are busy wearing (awfully short and equally awfully baby blue) Waves Vienna staff t-shirts. However, we have managed to see M185, Gang Of Four, Killed By 9V Batteries and When Saints Go Machine. Obviously so far the Flex is our favourite fesitval location, but this might change tonight when we’ll venture into other locations as well.
