Filou - Komisch

I feel you, Filou, I feel you. I’m not a morning person either.

Wanda - Auseinandergehen ist schwer (from Amore, to be released on Problembärrecords in the fall)

Also, tschuldigung. Echt. Wir meinen’s nicht bös. Wir sind nur echt ur faul.

Amere Meander - Impressions

You may have thought that black and white tweeness is the last thing a western movie aesthetic needed. You were wrong.

Wanda - Schickt mir die Post (single out now on Problembär Records)

When I first listened to this song, I though that this is like a sloppy, slightly morbid, dirty Peter Alexander song. The video’s aesthetics didn’t help me change my mind but then again, sloppy, morbid, dirty Peter Alexander songs are kind of a dream genre for me.

Filou - Wien

Huh. Amusement park/circus nostalgia seems to be the new hot thing in music videos.

Der Nino aus Wien - Diese Person ist cool (from Träume, out May 16, via Problembär Records)

The first single from Nino’s upcoming two albums. I like it but I’m never going to watch the video again because it reminds me of the 2012 Doctor Who Christmas special which was not only bad, but also super scary

Clemens Denk Band - Aber der Sound ist gut (from Clemens Band Denk out on March 11 via Totally Wired Records in collaboration with Problembär Records)

1. This sounds exactly like I imagined a collaboration between these two labels to sound like. Like. 100%.

2. This is an excellent execution of a music video that is a literal illustration of the lyrics.

One crappy cellphone picture of DER NINO AUS WIEN, January 22nd 2014, Café Dezentral, Wien
We were invited to attend the secret show at Café Dezentral (other highlights, besides the oven include: Weißer Spritzer for 2,10, board games, a fairy lights illuminated Madonna icon) which was, according to him, “the last chance to see them not yet over-rehearsed.” It was the first show to promote the two new albums he will put out later in spring via Problembär Records.
They did play mostly new songs, with one or two very old exceptions. And as is usually the case with der Nino aus Wien songs, there was one line sticking out, in this case:
"Du solltest dir nur nicht zu viel vorstellen, sonst sticht dir die Wirklichkeit eine Weinflasche in den Rücken."

Der Nino aus Wien - I See A Darkness

"Ur schee!" hat meine Schwester gesagt, als ich mir überlegt hab, was ich zu dem Lied außer den hard facts (Will Oldham Cover, Johnny Cash hat’s auch schon gesungen, in der Version für den Film "I see a darkness" aufgenommen) denn schreiben könnte, aber außer "Ur schee!" muss man ja eh nix sagen.

Amere Meander - Something I Am Not

While I can admire the necessary body tension to do it, I don’t quite get the whole pole dance thing. I’m also not a big fan of smoke and dramatic backlighting, so this video gave me nothing I didn’t already have from the song. But you know, to each their own.

If you want to own the song, you can get it here for free here because we featured it on the Music Alliance Pact back in October.

Parkwächter Harlekin - Getarnte Mauern

I find this video a bit boring (forest, four panels, pixels, blah) but the phrase “minutiös geplantes Trauern”, which is just one half line from the very clever refrain, more than makes up for it.

Parkwächter Harlekin - Wolkenvorhang

Der frühe Vogel würde nicht so schreien,
hätte er wirklich einen Wurm im Schnabel

AUSTRIA: Walzerkönig
Amere Meander  Something I Am Not (MP3)
Three kindergarten friends form a band and make pop music. Viennese Amere Meander appeared out of nowhere with songs that are sometimes dreamy and sweet, sometimes mysterious and noisy, drawing inspiration from anything from shoegaze to Fleetwood Mac. Always catchy but never unpredictable, Something I Am Not is taken from their debut album To Lead Astray.

Parkwächter Harlekin - In der Stadt

To be honest, I was a bit afraid of watching this video. Because I’m a grown-up now and I know that the circus is not a magical place. I know that it is not a nice place for humans and animals and “running away to join the circus” will probably lead to a life of poverty and hard work (or, even more likely, being turned in to the authorities). I know all of that but I like to pretend I don’t, and so I was a bit afraid of having illusions shattered, yet again, by this video.

It doesn’t shatter illusions though. Instead, the images from a storage room filled with circus… stuff, are a great juxtaposition to the lyrics that are also about things from the past (apologies to those of you still going to circuses) that seem glorious but aren’t.
