Here’s a band that knows exactly which visual parallels to use to describe their sound: golden hour lighting, standing in bodies of glistening water fully clothed, weeds in the wind, bokeh effects, reverse-motion dancing in nature, and of course, the inevitable woods shots. Because what would an upcoming band’s video be without scenes shot in the woods? It’s a rite of passage.
Naked Cameo are doing music videos in the woods, but we still love them
If you’ve followed this blog for a while, you know we have a love/hate relationship with music videos shot in the woods. There really are so so many. At one point, we even vowed to never feature a single woodsy video ever again. But oh well, we’ll always make an exception for an exceptional band.
We’ve got to admit that our musical awareness radius usually doesn’t extend to Tyrol, which is a shame. Good thing Identikit sent us their first ever music video to Everything a few months ago. Bad thing it got lost in our inbox until today.
Because this is truly solid. You know, apart from the inescapable forest scene (really? How many more forest scenes do we have to take??).
Ages feat. Zanshin - Return out January 23, 2015 on Etage Noir Recordings
Ages is what used to be A.G. Trio. The name change happened for a couple of reasons, one of them being that they had a different approach to music-making. That expresses itself in a divining rod (that is actually a wishbone) imposed on forest-imagery.
Pharaohs And Kings - Twisted Eyes
Can everyone please FINALLY stop with the forest videos? One day we’re going to make our threat come true and no longer post music videos with more than three trees in it. This idea has stopped being creative in 2011 and the best forest video has already been made.
Forest videos, incidentally, is only one thing this band from Carinthia has in common with the similarly sounding Upper Austrians Catastrophe & Cure (band name- as well as music-wise). The latter also received massive FM4 support with no label backing them, something which is also happening to Pharaohs and Kings at the moment.
Pharaohs And Kings are playing at WannaPlayVienna on 8 July at B72 in Vienna (free entry).
Olympique - The Reason I Came (from Crystal Palace, out in autumn 2014)
I once had a really nice holiday at the Isonzo (I assume that river is the Isonzo). Otherwise I can’t think of anything to say about this video with all its foggy forests, slow motion running and dramatic rocking out in landscapes more exciting than the song.
Scarlet Chives - The Timber Will Fall from This Is Protection, out on 21 March on Siluh Records
This video has everything*: a forest, a mask (so far nothing the forest video that started it all, Francis International Airport's Monsters, does not also have), dead animals, blood, naked bodies, sexual innuendo, power relations, chains, boobs, so many boobs, and also breastmilk? I… erm… wow.
*subtle Stefon pun

Chili and the Whalekillers - Turn
This song is so adorably twee and summery that I’m willing to ignore the clichéd forest images. Plus, sparklers. I’m a sucker for those. I wouldn’t waste them on daylight, though.
Die Kraft - MTS
Sorry but I’m not sorry.
Esmeralda the Swift - Zanshin
Another forest video. I’m letting it slide since it consists of close close-ups, is accompanied by rather disturbing and uneasy music and I just read a novel where there’s a murder in a forest.
